This property was a rental for years, accommodating various tenants, but it was time for a change. After selling their previous residence, the couple saw potential in this property and envisioned it as their permanent home. Central to this transformation was the kitchen—a space they dreamed of reinventing into their home’s larger, more functional, and aesthetically pleasing heart.
The existing kitchen, however, was far from their dream. Cramped appliances, an outdated layout, and unfinished sections made the space less than ideal for a modern lifestyle. Adjacent to the kitchen was a seldom-used room by the front door, which presented an opportunity for expansion despite the challenges posed by existing mechanicals in the dividing wall.
Challenges for the Homeowners
The couple’s wish list included a spacious kitchen adorned with modern amenities, a desire to replace their dining table with a large island or breakfast bar for family and guests, and a vision to integrate a beverage station complete with a mini-fridge, wine bottle storage, and elegant shelving for their liquor collection. The ambition to merge the kitchen with the laundry area, transforming an existing closet into a new pantry, further demonstrated their desire for a space that was not only beautiful but supremely functional.
How We Helped Them Reach Their Objectives

The team strategically removed the wall between the kitchen and the adjacent entry room, navigating around an unmovable duct by repositioning electrical components and integrating the smaller section of the wall into the design of a new, expansive eat-in island. Custom cabinetry was meticulously designed to surround this feature, enhancing functionality and aesthetic appeal.
The transformation also included replacing the existing kitchen window with a new double casement window to bring natural light into the space. Where a full-height window once stood, the team skillfully filled the wall to accommodate a new range, hood, and cabinetry. The centerpiece of the large island kitchen was crafted with custom cabinets and seating for six, cleverly incorporating a microwave drawer and additional storage solutions.
A bespoke beverage station was added with a wing wall to tastefully conclude the open end, epitomizing the couple’s vision for a kitchen catering to their culinary and entertaining needs.
