A Bathroom Renovation for a Downsize

Retired couples often embark on a new chapter in life by downsizing into a more manageable space. It’s a significant decision that allows them to enjoy life without the hassles of maintaining a larger single-family home. However, transitioning into a new place sometimes means adapting to a different style and layout that may not fully align with their tastes and needs. That’s where Ken Spears Construction steps in to make the new place truly their own. Here, we explore how we helped a retired couple transform the bathroom in their newly purchased townhome into a personalized oasis.

Overview Of The Project

Our client, a retired couple, decided to downsize from their single-family house into a more compact townhome. While the townhome provided the desired convenience, it felt outdated and didn’t reflect their style. They envisioned making significant changes to the townhome before moving in, focusing on the bathroom.

Challenges For The Homeowner

The challenges our clients faced were clear. They needed better functionality in their bathroom to accommodate two people comfortably. The existing bathroom lacked the modern finishes and fixtures they desired. Specifically, they aimed to change from a single-sink vanity to a double sink for convenience. Additionally, they wanted a taller and more comfortable toilet and sought to eliminate the fiberglass shower surround that didn’t align with their vision.

How We Helped Them Reach Their Objectives

To optimize the available space efficiently, we decided to keep the existing bathroom layout intact, ensuring that the bathroom’s functional aspects remained intact while allowing for significant enhancements in other areas. One of the key improvements we implemented was the upgrade of the vanity. We replaced the previous single sink vanity with a beautifully crafted double sink vanity made from rustic maple wood stained with sable. This enhanced functionality by accommodating two people comfortably, introducing elegance and sophistication to the bathroom’s design.

We addressed the issue of the outdated fiberglass shower surround in the shower area by removing it entirely. We then installed ceramic tiles on the walls, arranged in an attractive herringbone pattern. We revamped the flooring by replacing the existing ceramic floor tiles with new mosaic hex tiles, providing a fresh and visually appealing look.

Through these carefully executed steps, Ken Spears Construction successfully helped our clients meet their objectives, creating a bathroom that seamlessly blends functionality and aesthetics.

Design Elements Used

We carefully curated a selection of design elements and products to revitalize the bathroom. Here’s a glimpse of the design elements we incorporated:

The focal point of the transformation was the rustic maple vanity, elegantly stained in sable. To create a cohesive and harmonious look, we used custom mirrors that perfectly matched the vanity, adding a sense of unity. For durability and style, we opted for LG Viatera Quartz Countertops in the exquisite Rococo color, elevating the space’s aesthetics and practicality.

On the floor, we used Designer White Matte mosaic hex tiles, accentuated by the Mapei Iron grout color, delivering a fresh and visually appealing foundation. We installed a Kohler Tresham shower base equipped with a built-in seat in the shower area, ensuring comfort and convenience without compromising style. We adorned the shower walls with matte white subway tiles for a modern touch.

For a more contemporary flair, we selected Moen Dartmoor sink and shower faucets, which are matte black, ensuring consistency in style throughout the bathroom. The sink itself, a Kohler Caxton in pristine white, complemented the overall design, harmonizing with the chosen design elements. To enhance functionality, we introduced a new Panasonic lighted exhaust fan in the ceiling, combining practicality with a touch of modernity.

Through the thoughtful incorporation of these design elements, Ken Spears Construction achieved the perfect synergy of aesthetics and functionality, culminating in a bathroom that exudes style and practicality.
