Roof update to older home

This 100+ year old house needed a roof with longevity to complement the history of the home.  It was built in 1902, with slate shingles that lasted more than 50 years.  The rugged foursquare-style masonry construction has stood the test of time, and provided a lasting landmark on the windswept farm country.  However, the asphalt shingles used since the 1960’s had shown a tendency to blow off in high winds.

Completed Roofing

For their new roof, the owners selected stone-coated steel shingles made by Decra®.  Their 50-year warranty promises a lifespan to rival the original roof, and their 120-mph wind rating has proven to hold up in Northern Illinois winds where traditional asphalt/fiberglass shingles have not.  The light weight, fire resistance, and impact resistance all added to the value of the Decra steel shingles.  And they look very much like traditional shingles.

This classic home is now topped off by a suitably classic roof.
